Description of Initiative:  
Asterisk Communications runs an on-air Job Talk Show every Saturday from 11:30am - Noon in the Gainesville area and is
sponsored by Florida Employer Advisory Council, Inc.        
                   
YEAR:  2010   NAME OF ACTIVITY:  ONE STOP WORKFORCE CONNECTION
                   
Description of Initiative:     
Asterisk Communications has partnered with One Stop Workforce Connection.  Together we have developed an internet page  
describing radio broadcasting career opportunities that links to One Stop Workforce Connection job placement website.  Additionally, 
we run public service announcements making the public aware of the website and promoting One Stop's Job Fairs.
   
YEAR:  2010   NAME OF ACTIVITY:  UNIVERSITY of FLORIDA JOB & INTERNSHIP FAIR
   
Description of Initiative:    
On March 25, 2010, our General Manager, John Starr, participated in interviewing students seeking radio internships and jobs at 
University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.  Media from around the State of Florida were in attendance.  He 
interviewed six students and as a result, six individuals, one of which was an intern, were offered positions.
                   
YEAR:  2010   NAME OF ACTIVITY:  INTERNSHIP PROGRAM-OCALA
   
Description of Initiative:    
Our intern in the programming department has learned many skills including formulation of promotional concepts, production skills,
general advertising campaigns, business management and agency commercial dubbing.  The intern is guided by an employee in our
program department.  We provide training on various equipment as well as guidance to carry out the assignments.
                   
YEAR:  2010   NAME OF ACTIVITY:  INTERNSHIP PROGRAM-GAINESVILLE
   
Description of Initiative:    
The staff of Asterisk Communications in Gainesville have been training three interns.  One intern is learning radio sales by attending
sales meeting, shadowing sales reps and writing ad copies as well as sales proposals.  One is showing interest in our political talk 
show and has been learning how to produce the show.  Another expressed interest in sports talk show and has sufficiently learned
how to produce the shows that she was offered a position as a part-time employee.  
                   
 
YEAR:  2010   NAME OF ACTIVITY:  MARION COUNTY CUB SCOUT PACK 440
   
Description of Initiative:    
On September 20th, Thunder Country 102.3 and Big 92.9 hosted the Marion County Cub Scout Pack 440 for an
in-studio visit where eight youngsters were led by their parents and troop leader James Vernon.   The local troop is
working to earn their communication badge and this visit helped fulfill the requirements.  WTRS personalities Rob 
Stewart and Joe explained on-air broadcasting, radio sales, commercial production and radio promotions.  The troop
members and their families enjoyed meeting the radio broadcasters and watching the equipment.  Future troops are
expected to make us part of their studies.
